The Greenhouse

The high tunnel is at the heart of Walker Homestead's farm-to-table experience, making it possible to grow fresh produce long before spring arrives and well into the winter months.

Planting begins as early as late February, and harvests often continue into January. Its automated sidewalls open and close based on the temperature, creating a protected environment where crops can thrive despite Iowa's changing weather.

In partnership with Bethany Fischer and Vince Waters of Iowa Grown, the high tunnel produces an ever-changing harvest that follows the seasons. One visit might feature crisp greens and herbs, while another showcases basil, ginger, lemongrass, peppers, or cucumbers at their peak. Because the harvest changes throughout the year, so do our farm-inspired menus.

The freshest ingredients are featured in everything from artisan sandwiches and seasonal soups to farm-to-table dinners and special events, giving guests a true taste of what the farm is growing that very week.
